Based on Zoë Kim’s personal narrative, Did You Eat? is a journey through trauma, heritage, and the eventual path to healing. As a Korean and a female immigrant, I felt a deep resonance with this story—a unique Korean-American experience told through both languages. The production captures the psychological metaphors of navigating two worlds, translating the complexities of the past into the physical space of the stage.

My design tracked the narrative of this life journey, using light to create a space where the audience could embody their own histories and find their own sense of healing. Collaboration was the heartbeat of this project; it was an unfolding of shared immigrant experiences. Visually, I focused on a contrast of textures: using sharp, graphical edges to define the harshness of trauma, balanced against gently spreading soft light to represent the tenderness of love and recovery.
